The Argentina national football team (Spanish: Selección de fútbol de Argentina) is the team that represents Argentina in international football competitions. Together with Brazil, this team is one of the strongest teams in South America and also in the world.
The team is controlled by the Argentine Football Association (AFA), the governing body for football in Argentina. Argentina's home stadium is El Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti Stadium and their head coach is Lionel Scaloni. The team occupies the FIFA World Rankings at 3rd as of October 2022.
La Selección (national team), also known as the Albicelestes (sky blue and whites), appeared in five World Cup finals, their first final being in Uruguay 1930, which they lost, 4-2, to home team Uruguay. After 48 years, Argentina won for the first time in their appearance in Argentina 1978 as the hosts beat the Netherlands in the final with a score of 3-1 at that time Argentina starred Mario Kempes, Daniel Passarella and Osvaldo Ardiles 8 years later with Diego Maradona and Jorge Valdano their star at the time, Argentina won again in Mexico 1986 by beating West Germany 3–2.

Argentina appeared again in the final at USA 1990, but this time they lost 1–0 to Germany thanks to an Andreas Brehme penalty. Argentina's managers at the World Cup at that time were César Luis Menotti in 1978, and Carlos Bilardo in 1986.
Argentina was very successful in the Copa América, winning 15 times and also winning the 'extra' South American Championship in 1941, 1945 and 1946.
