Paris Saint-Germain (French pronunciation: [paʁi sɛ̃ mɛ̃]) or widely known as PIESJI is a French football team that plays in Ligue 1, France that does not yet have a UCL trophy (0 UCL). Headquartered in Paris, France. The club was founded on 12 August 1970, thanks to the merger of Paris FC and with Stade Saint-Germain.
The football team, which was initiated by British citizens, triggered the birth of many football clubs there. In the end these clubs began to join in a regional league.
In the early 1900s, France already had about 300 football clubs. Even ten of them are in Paris itself. One of the clubs that was founded was called Stade Saint-Germain. An amateur and unprofessional club in 1904.
Football flourished in Paris after World War I. The first professional league held in Paris was started in 1932. It was called Ligue 1. However, at that time, only one club qualified for the league out of the many clubs in Paris. .
A group of businessmen from Paris also initiated a new team called the Paris Football Club (FC). Until 1970, Paris FC merged with Stade Saint-Germain. Then the name of the combined club changed to Paris Saint-Germain Football Club or what is now known as PSG.
